For me personally the best thing is the polyphonic synthesizer, Sylenth1! How can you choose the optimal ratio of quality and performance!Mixing is more than just compression, and, back then, there was rather less compression than today.
Just like with every music, it's a sum of its parts, instruments, sounds, production. There is no "use this synth and you sound like this" answer to your question.
If you want something which was heavily (and, with that I mean, primarily) used in Trance productions in the last, almost, 20 years, then get Sylenth1. If you want a modern take on that sound, which sounds better in my opinion, get Spire. With those two synths, you'll be able to create 99,9% if not 100% of the sounds you hear in the sound examples above. And, they will sound good out of the box, with less work involved to get them to sound the way you want. Which, in my opinion, is worth more than anything else, and the main point for me to purchase a soft or hardware synth.
