The FB pickups I just got (Epiphone ProBucker FB) look like they have the two conductor quick connectors, so those are probably standard one wire plus shielding.Yes, lots of cool things can be done. If your new Firebird pickups have 4-conductor cables, you might want to try a PRS partial split with them. For example, splitting with a 1K resistor to ground ought to give you a legit single coil sound with less hum.
The set I bought from GuitarMadness several years back are four wire though — maybe I’ll put a four-wire one in the neck position because that is where I want any trick wiring stuff (parallel, polarity reverse, maybe that partial split thing if parallel don’t get me there… ) and the the ProBucker FB in the bridge position because I want that one to be wired normal HB all the time anyway, plus the the ProBuckers have A2 magnets which I think I would prefer for saturated lead, maybe a little less strident than the standard A5 magnets (that would be in the GuitarMadness neck pickup).
