Thanks Jirka, I will add my 2 cents worth for context and potentially to help someone else who is thinking of making a second hand Spire purchase. The Eshalon bought Spire from me, the transfer went through successfully, but they thought the transfer would be to their personal account. Spire doesn't do transfers to personal accounts, only to email addresses. Since the person was polite and didn't make it personal, unlike most users, I decided to refund their money. This is a rare case of refunding the payment. Please read the transfer conditions carefully before purchasing. Thank you, Tom
The purchase from Jirka went fine and license emailed over promtly from what appears to be a Reveal Sound email but with a gmail extension (revealsound.deliverymail@gmail.com). When I queried this from Reveal support, their reply was..
"It appears you may have been the target of a fraudulent transfer.
The email address used to contact you (revealsound.deliverymail@gmail.com) is not associated with Reveal Sound.
Best regards,
Reveal Sound Team"
....Strike 1
So of course this immediately sends alarm bells ringing. Then when I use the license to register Spire, when I click the 'about' menu item to see the registration details, it shows the previous owners name and email address....strike 2. That coupled with the fact it seems you cannot use transferred licenses to officially register with Reveal, so there is no way that Reveal know you're the new owner of the license.... strike 3.
Now, call me old fashioned, but if the official support team does not recognise the licence or email address they supposidly sent it from, and the registration details for my license in the about section of the product show the previous owner and not mine, and there is no way to register the license to an account of my own with the supplier so I can receive official support and updates....I have to ask, wtf have I just purchased?
This isnt my first rodeo, if I just wanted to use the piece of software I could of simply gone on the web and got a cracked version. No, I want an official product registered to me that the supplier recognises that I now own so I can receive official support, upgrades and support the supplier even if indirectly.
Is this a cock up by Reveal and/or an unfreindly supplier second hand license transfer process ?
Should Jirka of made things more clear in the sales post?
Should I have done more research about second hand Spire license transfers?
Arguably yes to all three, either way, some lessons learnt and Jirka was responsive to my plight and refunded my money promptly (thanks for that!)
I will now wait for the BF deals to see if I can get it cheap there...officially
